I was biking home last night and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings' All Over Again (from her album Naturally, though it was on my iPod from the Soul Sides Vol. 1 album) came on just as I was getting home and I realized that it's a perfect description of my feelings for Erica.
You'd think after all this time, I wouldn't be surprised
You'd think there'd be nothin' new when I looked into your eyes
You'd think there ain't nothin' about you that I ain't realized
But every time I see you
But every time I see you, darlin'
But every time I see you
I fall in love, all over again
How many times I thought I knew you better than no one could
How many times I thought I'd love you more than any heart would
How many times I thought these things, but I misunderstood
'Cause every time I see you
'Cause every time I see you, darlin'
But every time I see you
I fall in love, all over again
And the years may come passin' by
We're gonna get old, wrinkled, and gray
But I can't think of nothin' better
No better way to pass the time
Than falling in love day after day after day
After all the love we've made, you'd think that we'd be tired
And after every part of you I've kissed and I've admired
After all that we've been through, we oughtta be uninspired
But every time I see you
But every time I see you, darlin'
Every time I see you
I fall in love, all over again
So, um, yeah. Like that.
Erica and I have been going out for two years. Whee!
Someone asked me if we were still going to celebrate our dating anniversary after we had a wedding anniversary. Why wouldn't we? If the notion of marking two days a year to celebrate our relationship seemed like a huge burden, then maybe we'd want to rethink the whole spending-the-rest-of-our-lives-together thing. Just saying.
... Erica's parents and my parents are meeting for the first time, down in Vicksburg. And we're not there to mediate! Who knows what hideously embarrassing us-at-5-years-old stories they're telling?
Happy Valentines Day to all you lovebirds!
Though we officially celebrated last week (with awesome sushi), I am grateful today to have found the love of my life. Happy Valentines Day, Fuzzy. You are the best in the world. And that Elyse Sewell book is freaking great. xoxoxox!
I'm trying to get better about documenting our family gatherings -- I mean, I take a lot of pictures, but they're of whatever I think is interesting. My whole family gets together so rarely that now I'm trying to make sure that I take at least one "everybody get on the couch and for pete's sake look like a family" picture. I did it at Thanksgiving at my folks'. At Erica's parents' for Christmas we got the extended family on Christmas day, and then on Boxing Day we set up a camera and got a variety of shots -- the whole fam, mom & dad, Christopher and Katie, and Erica and I. We had been planning on getting engagement photos, but these came out so well, maybe we don't need to.
If, for some reason, you got here but don't know us, I'll let you know that we're Fuzzy Gerdes and Erica Reid, Chicago performers with day jobs, and we each have our own websites with information about our performances and goings-on. When we have a chance to breathe, post-holiday I imagine, we'll each put up our stories. (And yes, I mean our soap-operas that we watch.)
